Jail Ministry Start

Prayer of Invitation

Lord Jesus Christ, I need you.

Thank you for dying on the cross for my sins.

Thank you for rising from the dead.

I believe you are the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

I believe you are only way to heaven, the only way to the Father.

And right now, as an act of the will, by faith and trust in You, I open the door of my life and receive you as my Savior and Lord.

Thank you for forgivine my sins. Thank you for giving me eternal life in heaven.

Have mercy on me, Lord. Show me your will. Teach me your Word. Guide me by your Holy Spirit. Take the throne of my life, Lord Jesus, and make me the kind of person you want me to be.

In your holy and precious Name I pray, amen.

Jail Ministry Prayer Warriors

The foundation of the Jail Ministry is a faithful group of prayer warriors.  I guarantee you, it must be No.1 on your list if you plan to be spiritually successful in jail ministry. This is a pretty bold statement!  Why do I say this?

To be truthful, when I first began the jail ministry years ago, there was little time for me to pray.  By the time I had put in long hours on the Bible message, chose and recorded the praise songs, and went to the printer to copy off dozens of lessons,  I found myself in my car, rushing to the jail to meet my first devoted jail assistant, Carol Jeffries.  Together we walked down the long echoing cement halls, heard the clang of the steel doors locking behind us and welcomed 50 inmates at a time to our services.

Jail Ministry Volunteer Training

Jail ministry is a mission field opportunity, second to none, in our community.  The women have been removed from society and are awaiting a court hearing to be sentenced.  At this point of their incarceration, most are literally "on their face in tears" .... devastated, scared, ashamed, and remorseful.  This is the perfect opportunity to offer hope, love and restoration through Jesus Christ!

Materials Used in a Jail Service

A typical WIT Jail Worship Service includes the following materials:

Scripture Lesson: We print a several page hand-out used by the inmates for the Worship/Bible Service plus additional Bible study notes for their quiet time in the days ahead.

Christian Video:  To reinforce the Bible Truths of every lesson, I often use a portion of Dr. Charles Stanley’s message taken from the “In Touch” Television Ministry Programs.   By doing so, the women can receive spiritual nurturing from a “respected male spiritual leader”,something lacking in the majority of their lives.
